Ultra Short Throw Projector
The average size of tv is 65″, up from 55″ just a few short years ago. You can get TVs that are even larger but the cost of a 55″ to a 65″ is about the same. The larger screens can quickly become very expensive, like 4 figures expensive. TVs are going from HD to 4K to 8K and people really want to take in those beautiful views and scenes on their tv. 
While many of us long for a larger than 65″ tv, we don’t necessarily have that sort of cash to splash out on one. However, there are alternatives that give the same resolution quality without the cost. This is the ultra short throw projector and screen.
Most people understand the concept of long throw projectors. These are like what you find in the movie theater. They are typically mounted to the ceiling in the far back of the room. To really get a good picture and view of what is being projected on the screen it has to be pitch dark room. While this is wonderful for a theater room, it doesn’t really work when you are looking to watch sports with your buddies. Nobody wants to watch sports in the pitch black. Furthermore, you have to have a fairly large room for this all to work and you to have a good viewing angle as well.
Then you have all the cables that will have to reach the projector that is in the back of the room. This can mean that you will need to purchase some longer HDMI cables, which can be costly.
Other issues with long-throw projection vs ultra-short throw projection
The other issue with this type of projection is that people cannot get up and mingle in the room. If someone gets in the way of the projection and the screen, it will cast a shadow on the screen. This will result in people telling others to sit down or get out of the way.
While long throw machines take 8-10′ to project properly, ultra-short-throw projector (UST) machines will take 3-20″. Yes, that is feet and inches, pay close attention. This means that your UST can sit on a credenza just in front of the tv and will not be bothered by people moving around. The UST is not ceiling mounted but sits at the proper angle in front and slightly below the screen or wall you are projecting to. This allows you to avoid long HDMI cables. You will have all the cables contained right there in the wall that the screen is mounted to.
Typically, if set up correctly, the screen will reflect ambient lighting. This means that it can be watched with the lights on and curtains open. This allows you to enjoy that game in 4K or 8K with friends and family on a huge screen. Some of the projectors are smart themselves and will have the same functions as what you find on “smart TVs”. This allows you to use the projector as you would use a normal tv.
